The Sumahan, although recently inaugurated, owes its namesake and part of its charm to a past which began in 1875. A five star hotel since May 2005, the Sumahan is situated in an a former distillery which made raki, one the Ottomans' favourite liquors.
Sumahan has two restaurants: KORDON, a fish and sea food restaurant and WATERFRONT TERRACE with Turkish and International cuisine. Furthermore, the Sumahan also disposes of wellness centre which has a gym and a Turkish bath.
The Sumahan is a contrast of historic and modern elements, a boutique hotel with 20 rooms, in which the spirit of Istanbul dwells. The view from every bedroom is an ever-changing seascape of fishermen and ferryboats and ships gliding through the night. There is a choice of suites and bedrooms, each with its own personality, most with fire places, but all with magnificent views.
Sumahan is just outside Çengelköy, a part of the city that still preserves its air of an authentic Bosphorus neighborhood. It is a village of wooden houses, fish restaurants and seaside promenades. Sumahan has swift connections to both Bosphorus bridges and the business districts on either side of the water.
